Mute Swan Cygnets 2001

Here are a few images from the first few days of the 2001 cygnets. It was originally my intention to add images as the cygnets grew, unfortunately all but one had very short lives. The remaining one (a "Polish" swan, nicknamed Ivory) was removed by the Parks Board to a "safe" location (initially a paddling pool, now a small pond in the Children's Zoo). For more information (from another perspective) on the 2001 season see The Mute Swans of Lost Lagoon, Spring 2001. I have also created an incomplete log of the Swans nesting for this 2002.

The Cygnets hatched Wednesday, 2001 June 13.

1st cygnet a few hours after hatching

3rd and 4th hatching.

Returning from 8am swim, Friday (less than 2 days old).

Saturday - after a crow attack, safest place is on Mother's back. All 4 are there, but one is hiding.
